Montage – How to Prepare

STEP 1 – Fill out the Music &TV/Movie Request Worksheet included in your prep kit. We suggest that you view as many montages on our site as possible.  You’ll keep your costs down if you choose existing clips that we’ve used in other motnages.  If you ask us to do use clips that we’ve never used before, it will incur additional costs because we have to find the TV show or movie on DVD, research the entire program, download, encode and edit into our systems.  Please note that we can not use clips from the internet – specifically youtube.

STEP 2 – On the back of the Music &TV/Movie Request Worksheet, tell us a little bit about the celebant.

STEP 3 – Go through your photo library and choose your best photos.  If possible, try to choose horizontal photos because your video will be produced in widescreen.  Horizontal photos will screen MUCH better than vertical photos.   PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF SUBMITTING MORE PHOTOS THAN OUR CONTRACTED PHOTO COUNT. More photos means more editing time and a longer montage.  We charge $10.00 for each photo SUBMITTED over the contracted photo count.

STEP 4 – Separate your photos into the appropriate categories.  Within each category, arrange your photos in chronological order (or the order you want them to be viewed in the montage).

STEP 5 – Within each category,  number your photos (in order) on the back of each picture.  Be sure to use crayon or pencil.  DO NOT USE A PEN – THE INK COULD SMEAR ON YOUR VALUABLE PHOTOS.  Also, be sure to consider your digital photos because you’ll have to colate and number accordingly.

STEP 6 – For your digital photos, we set up the same category folders  on the USB Flash Drive provided in your prep kit. Simply drag and drop your digital photos (JPEGS ONLY – 300K or HIGHER) from your computer into the correct category folder on the USB.

Note About iPhoto:  If your photo library is in iPhoto, you will not be able to drag and drop your photos from iPhoto directly onto the USB.  Instead, drag and drop onto your DESKTOP FIRST – then you ‘ll be able to move them onto the USB.  Wait until after they’re on the USB before you rename each photo as directed in Step 7.

STEP 7  – BE SURE TO NUMBER EACH DIGITAL PHOTO THAT YOU DRAG AND DROP ONTO THE USB.  NUMBERING EACH  DIGTIAL PHOTO IS VERY SIMPLE – YOU SIMPLY HIGHLIGHT THE FILE NAME AND RENAME BY TYPING THE NEW FILE NAME – WHICH WILL BE THE PHOTO NUMBER AND THE CATEGOTY.   See following example. Here is an example of a category that has hard copy AND digital photos:

Category:  Mom – 10 pictures

01 Mom – hard copy – write “01” on the back of the picture, place in “Mom” manila folder

02 Mom -hard copy – write “02” on the back of the picture, place in “Mom” manila folder

03 Mom -hard copy – write “03” on the back of the picture, place in “Mom” manila folder

04 Mom -digital – drag & drop into USB “Mom” folder, rename the digital file “04 Mom”

05 Mom -digital – drag & drop into USB “Mom” folder, rename the digital file “05 Mom”

06 Mom -digital – drag & drop into USB “Mom” folder, rename the digital file “06 Mom”

07 Mom -hard copy – write “07” on the back of the picture, place in “Mom” manila folder

08 Mom -digital – drag & drop into USB “Mom” folder, rename the digital file “08 Mom”

09 Mom -hard copy – write “09” on the back of the picture, place in “Mom” manila folder

10 Mom -digital – drag & drop into USB “Mom” folder, rename the digital file “10 Mom”

STEP 8 – Home videos MUST BE transferred and submitted on STANDARD DVD’s or digital video files.  Spot On Pictures will not accept tapes of any kind, mini discs,  links via youtube or any other format other than STANDARD DVD’s.  NOTE: If you need to transfer your tapes onto DVD’s, Google “Tape to DVD transfer”  to find local venders.

STEP 9 – Once your home videos are on DVD’s, review them and give us timecodes and descriptions of important moments to be included in the montage.  Put a note on the DVD case with timecodes and descriptions of your chosen home video clips.

Example:  DVD #3 – Josh’s first steps – timecode: 24:20. to 24:55.  REMINDER: please do not submit more than the number of home vidoes that we’ve contracted.  SUBMITTING  additonal home videos above our contract agreement will incur additional charges of $25.00 for each home video over the contracted video count.

STEP 10 – Package up your hard copy photo envelopes, your Music/TV&Movie Request Worksheet, USB Flash drive, home video DVD’s  (don’t forget your timecodes) and send via FEDEX or UPS with “NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED” option to:
